Portfolio Reflection 1
1. Looking back on my essay from the summer, there’s definite improvement all around the writing spectrum. The format was more of a guess then, as opposed actually having structure. Sentences were placed wherever as long as they sounded nice. Rereading the summer essay for me is almost a pain to get through as where my TKM essay isn’t as much of a struggle. The essay goes along more like a conversation than an essay, which isn’t necessarily bad but isn’t what we’re looking for when writing formally. Now, I can at least say that there is a base format I’m following.
2. Basic content is an improvement I’ve noticed. Words are more meaningful and aren’t acting as extra gobbledygook. More evidence is given throughout, and overall there is a more focused point trying to be expressed.
3. As for my opinion on the format given, it’s very nice having a list to loosely go off of. Instead of “winging it”, the basic parts are given and it helps makes things a lot less stressful. For the intro and conclusion paragraphs I do have a little trouble trying to sum up ideas within the guidelines though. Since I’d have read the sort-of directions, it makes me feel a little like I have to follow them more precisely than normal.
4. In the future, I’d like to improve on transitions to make my writing seem more consistent. Having a more flowing paper would let people get more absorbed into what they’re reading and let them listen to the ideas being told more easily. When writing on my own I never think to add extra words as transitions. It doesn’t come naturally to me so that’d be a nice development.
